British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. C. H. Beever. R.N.), extremely fine
[M.B.E.] London Gazette16 September 1919.
Beever was responsible for the proper equipment of Naval vessels of every description (including Oil Carriers) built in the District and during the War they were working hard, early and late on a wild area, entailing much travelling, the number of ships dealt with being numbered by hundreds. They frequently had to attend sea-going trials, thus being subject to considerable risk.
Charles Henry Beever was born on 5 December 1860 and enlisted into the Royal Navy on the 24 July 1871. He served on Thalia in Egypt (Medal), thence Condor from 6 July-21 September 1884 and again from 28 November 1884-11 May 1885. Promoted to Acting Gunner on 2 February 1891, he was made Chief Gunner on 28 April 1910, Lieutenant on 4 July 1912 and Lieutenant-Commander on 4 July 1920. He served with the Naval Staff of the Captain and Admiralty Superintendent of the Tyne District, being awarded the BWM for the Great War. He retired on 6 June 1919 and died on 22 August 1942 .
