India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp Waziristan 1921-24 (347852. A.C1. T. A. Tremewan. R.A.F.), contact marks, nearly very fine

Thomas Alfred Tremewan was born at Wellington, New Zealand on 24 July 1901, the nephew of Mrs G. Tremewan of Cornwall. Working with the New Zealand Shipping Company as a Fireman on a Merchant Marine ship he arrived in Britain. Here Tremewan enlisted with the Royal Air Force on 10 June 1921 at the Uxbridge Depot.

Seeing service in Iraq with No. 55 Squadron from 20 January 1922, he was to serve here for some time before transferring to No. 31 Squadron on the North-West Frontier on 14 October 1923. This Squadron joined the forces keeping order amongst the fractious tribes that lived there, occasionally taking part in the larger expeditions against them. Tremewan was certainly active during the period in which the British fought constant low level actions with the Wazir people of Waziristan. Posted to a depot on 19 April 1926 he was later to be sent to the Reserves on 9 June 1927. On his discharge Tremewan noted his intent to move back to New Zealand; sold together with a copied service record.
