India General Service 1895-1908, 2 clasps Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (2384 Pte W. Skiffins 1st Bn Ryl. W. Surr. Regt.), suspension loose, minor edge wear, overall very fine

William Henry Skiffins was born at St. George, Southwark on 27 February 1863. Working as a Cork Cutter prior to enlistment he was also a member of the Militia, serving with the 4th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Joining the Queen's (Royal West Surry) Regiment on 12 September 1888 he was posted to India on 18 October 1890. Skiffins was to serve in India for over four years before travelling to Malta for a years service with the Garrison there. Returning to India Skiffins served a tour of the North-West Frontier between 1897-98 including service on the Tirah expedition.

Leaving India on 25 February 1901 Skiffins was pensioned on 1 March 1901. Working as a Tram Conductor at Layton, Essex by 1911 Skiffins may have re-enlisted for service in the Great War. He died in Essex on 18 February 1948.
