1840 (April) Postal Notice headed "to all post masters." issued at the General Post Office, Edinburgh, bearing 1d. black, Plate 1a, OL-PL vertical pair, the notice advising of the imminent despatch of the new postage stamps and stationery envelopes; some minor foxing to edges, horizontal central fold, reinforced on the reverse and in fine condition when compared with other example. A major rarity and among the most important pieces of Great Britain philately, heralding the birth of modern postage.
