Great Britain: Harvey United Steel Co. Ltd., 5/- shares, 19[10], #7401, small vignette in centre of some 'harveyed' hardened steel armour plate, green. Hayward Harvey was born in New York in 1824 into a family already recognised for their work in iron, screws and rods. He worked on methods of hardening ordinary Bessemer steel and organised the Harvey Steel Company in 1886. This British company was set up to exploit the patents for his armour plating process, being used for building warships. Small rust mark at right, VF and rare.
