Great Britain: Cwm Celyn & Blaina Iron Company, Monmouthshire, £250 share, 183[9], #361, black printing, on vellum. Signed by Thomas Brown and Henry Strothert as directors. Formed in 1839 to acquire the two ironworks it was in financial difficulty by 1844 and the company was liquidated with the works being put up for auction. Thomas Brown (1804 - 1884), and his brother James were left considerable fortunes by their ironmaster father Richard Brown. Thomas later operated Ebbw Vale Ironworks where Bessemer Steel was made. Made High Sherrif in 1854. Strothert (1797 - 1860) was a Bath iron master with huge interests in South West England and South Wales. He started the firm which developed into Avonside Engine Company, locomotive builders. Another of his creations, Stothert & Pitt, builders of cranes and iron goods lasted until 1989. EF and scarce.
