Great Britain: Blackpool Gigantic Wheel Company Ltd., £1 shares, 18[96], #595, decorative title, black, red seal. Formed in 1896 to build the ferris wheel next to Blackpool Tower. It had a total height of 67 metres and was the 4th largest in the world after Paris, Chicago and London. It consumed 1000 tons of steel. It was never as popular as the others in major cities and the company went into liquidation in 1916. Ceased operations altogether in 1928 and finally dismantled with the gondolas being sold at public auction. Spike hole top left, pink ink bottom right, VF.
