Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, Laing's Nek (46303 Gnr: J. Badnell, 2nd W. D., R.G.A.), good very fine
James Badnell was born in 1865 and enlisted at Cookham on 30 December 1884 with the Royal Artillery. Serving with the 7th Battery, 1st (Cinque Ports) Brigade Royal Artillery in Burma during the resistance movements which fought against the British rule there between 1887-89, this unit was later re-named to No. 21 Battery, Eastern Division, Royal Artillery.
Badnell joined the reserves after this conflict but was later remobilised for the Second Anglo-Boer War. Posted to No. 2 Company, Western Division, Royal Garrison Artillery, being at some stage during the conflict invalided back to Britain. Badnell died while still in service at Devonport on 22 May 1901; sold together with copied medal rolls.
