1901 (May) 6c. + 6c. carmine reply card showing variety "message and reply half printed on the same half of the reply card" sent from Diyatalawa Camp to Paris (1.6) arrival c.d.s., showing alongside Diyatalawa censored hand stamp, with the additional stamp fallen in transit; then returned from Paris (7.6) registered with the addition of a France 25c. stamp to Ceylon.
The sender wrote: "I discovered this impression error and I ask you to send me the double card as is certified and turned to the address side of course...". The sender of the reply card was Louis Bergasse a French volunteer with the Boers. He was captured at Pieters Hill (27th Feb. 1900). He was sent to Diyatalawa Camp, escaped and was sent to Ragama Camp, escaped and then sent to Weiikada Gaol, where only the worst of the Boer prisoners were kept. A unique rarity with an incredible piece of history behind it.
