Auction: 22120 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 16: Indian and Islamic Coins - e-Auction
Lot: 129
Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan (1628-58), gold Mohur, 10.88g, Akbarabad, AH1045 / 9, legends within square frame with knotted corners both sides (KM 260.2var), edge damage from large test punches, otherwise toned red gold, about extremely fine, this year / type combination not recorded for this mint
The fine calligraphy of the die is indicative of the work of a genuine Mughal mint master. This coin is nevertheless unusual in having two dates: '1044' at the bottom right of the frame containing the Kalima, and '1045' in the right margin. The latter date is more correct for ry.9.
It could be that this is an example of an unofficial striking made at an official mint.
