Auction: 22117 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 17: Part II - A Gentleman's Collection of Shillings, Sixpences and Maundy Coins - e-Auction
Lot: 1082

George II (1727-1760), 'Roses' Shilling, 1745 over 3, old laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, roses in angles, eight strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.89g, 6h (Bull 1723; ESC 1204A; Spink 3702), rubbed, lightly toned, strictly fine / good fine, the overdate scarce

Provenance
Warwick & Warwick 896, 21 October 2020, lot 508

The date does seem to be repunched or possibly over something, but as a straight 5 over 3 it is not very convincing here. Bull illustrates a similar date and calls it 45 over 34 (page 244), though confusingly he does not list such a coin, listing instead the 5 over 3.
