Joseph Alfred Pinkney was born at Pocklington, Yorkshire on 23 October 1873 and joined the Royal Navy on 16 January 1896. He served aboard the Thames, the submarine tender vessel, from 1 September 1916-30 September 1917, earned his L.S. & G.C. Medal on 29 October 1917 and also served at Dolphin before being discharged on 14 February 1919.

Thomas McIlwain was born at Harbour Hill, Queenstown on 6 July 1876 and joined the Royal Navy on 6 July 1894. During the Great War he served aboard Powerful from 8 August 1914-28 May 1916.

William Shawcroft was born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire on 17 December 1882 and was a collier by trade upon his joining the Royal Navy on 26 August 1902. During the Great War he served aboard Canada, who was present at the Battle of Jutland, from 10 August 1915 until his discharge on 11 March 1919.
