The campaign group of five awarded to Private C. E. Sheridan, 11th Hussars, who appears to have guilded his laurels with the addition of two gallantry awards

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R., with unofficial dated Bar 'Jan. 18. 1916.' (10952 Pte. C. E. Sheridan. 11th Hussars.); Military Medal, G.V.R., with Second Award Bar (10952 Pte. C. E. Sheridan. 11th Hussars.); 1914 Star with clasp (10952 Pte. C. E. Sheridan. 11/Hrs.); British War and Victory Medals with M.I.D. oak leaves (10952 Pte. C. E. Sheridan. 11-Hrs.), mounted as worn, the first two unofficially re-impressed, nearly very fine (5)

Charles Sheridan served with the 11th (or Prince Albert's Own) Hussars in France and Flanders from 16 September 1914. The regiment participated in the 'Great Retreat' from Mons (August-September 1914) and, in that latter month, had the rare distinction during the Great War of making a successful cavalry charge, at Nery, which captured eight German artillery pieces. Whilst Sheridan's M.I.C. confirms his campaign entitlement (and a Silver War Badge), there is no record of his being awarded - or entitled to - the Distinguished Conduct Medal (and Bar), the Military Medal (and Bar), nor a Mention in Despatches.
Sheridan was discharged in October 1918, with his M.I.C. further noting an address at Camp Hill in Birmingham.
