The citation covers his operational service from 1949-6 December 1955 and refers to his being one of the first batch of British NCOs selected for the Gurkha Signals in 1949, serving with 17 Gurkha Signal Regiment.
Thomas Jones was finally promoted Lieutenant-Colonel (QM) in 1974 and retired in August 1976; sold together with career promotions and typed memories of his time on active service in Malaya.
