The K.C.B. attributed to Major-General Sir Edmund Leach, who saw service in the Crimea, New Zealand Wars, and the Anglo-Egyptian War, ending his military career as Colonel of the (Queen's Own) Royal West Kent Regiment

(Military) Knight Commander’s set of Insignia, comprising neck Badge, silver-gilt, gold and enamel; breast Star, silver, silver-gilt, gold and enamels, the star fitted with gold pin for wearing, contained in its Garrard & Co. Ltd. case of issue, with a short length of neck riband, the gilt somewhat tarnished on the badge, generally very fine (2)
Edmund Leach was born in Pembrokeshire in November 1836 and educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Commissioning into the 50th (Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot, he served with the regiment in the Crimea and in New Zealand, where he was Aide-de-Camp to Brigadier-General Waddy and Mentioned in Despatches in addition to receiving a Brevet majority.
Seeing further active service with the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in Egypt, he was present at the battle of Kassasin and appointed to the Order of the Osmanieh IV Class. Commanding the battalion during the Nile Expedition (1884-85), he received a further 'mention' in addition to being made Companion of the Order of the Bath. Colonel of the Regiment from 1904-21, Leach was advanced K.C.B. in 1907 and died in 1923 at the age of 87.
