Richard Cobden James Ainscow was born at Bolton, Lancashire on 18 February 1895. Enlisting with the King's Royal Rifle Corps on 19 September 1914 he entered the war with them on 17 November 1915. Transferring to the Royal Flying Corps on 12 January 1918 with the rank of Air Mechanic Class 3 Ainscow subsequently joined the newly formed Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 with the rank of Private Class II. During this time he served with No. 74 Squadron stationed in France. He was transferred to the R.A.F. Reserve on 19 February 1919 and died in 1971.
