John Lafferty was born in 1896, the son of Michael and Anne Lafferty of Carrowblagh or Leckemy, Ireland. Enlisting as a Driver on 27 April 1915 with 41 Signal Company Lafftery served at home until 24 June 1916 when he was posted to Durban, South Africa. Remaining there until 29 January 1918 when he caught Malaria and was sent home. After his recovery he entered the war in France on 23 June 1918. Sent to the Reserve on 30 July 1920 Lafferty re-enlisted on 19 May and served with 20 Lowland Division until 18 May 1923 when he was finally discharged; sold together with copied census data, a medal roll and service papers.
