Alfred James Bacon was born at Dalston, London in 1882. Working as a Wheelwright and Van Builder while at Mortlake, Surrey prior to the outbreak of war he enlisted with the Royal Engineers on 11 December 1915 and was mobilised on 28 March 1917. Serving with a Road Construction Company from 29 March at Aldershot he was promoted Lance-Corporal on 21 April and entered the war in France on 12 June 1917. Transferred to the Army Reserve on 14 April 1919 he moved to Hartfield Road, Wimbledon remaining in London he died there in 1949; sold together with copied census data and medal roll.
