George Henry Mitchell was born at Brighthouse, Yorkshire in 1882. Entering the war in France on 10 January 1917 he served for several months until being wounded in the field on 21 November 1917. He was treated at No. 21 Casualty Clearing Station where it became clear that his left thigh bone had been shattered. Sent to No. 9 General Hospital in Rouen after a week of treatment Mitchell was returned to Britain. Seeing home service for the rest of the war he was demobilised on 26 January 1919 sold together with a Brighthouse Appreciation Medal engraved to the reverse 'Pte. G. H. Mitchell 201490. D. of W. R. Rgt.'
