Henry Gawan, who was born in 1875, was a tanner's labourer living at Beverley upon the outbreak of the Great War. He served in Egypt with the East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry from 10 November 1915 and his image appeared in the Beverley Guardian in March 1917.
