An Unusual Stuart Privy Council Letter Regarding the Use of Lighthouses
1618 (19 March) letter signed from Robert Naunton, Secretary of the Council, the address panel reading "To the right honourable my very good Ld. My Lord Zouche Lord Warden of his Majesty's Sincke portes and of highness most honorable privy consell" regarding "the ligh at Lyd, thyre lordships wold not have any such alarme given to the Country, as putting of it out wold make, but wold have it continued in any case as previously it hath bene" and the matter of Lovel whose letters "were frivolous errandes from popishly affected Inglish of both sexes". Some minor defects though fine and with complete wax seal. Interesting content regarding the use of lighthouses.

Notes: The matter of lighthouse control and ownership was clearly contentious, ownership being contested by the Cinque Ports".
