James Boswell
1816 small leather bound volume of "The Works of Samuel Johnson", sadly with the cover detached, with small piece affixed to first leaf signed "James Boswell", supplemented by noted that this volume was "given to R.G.D. Alexander by A.B. Roxburgh whose mother was Miss Boswell"; seemingly all leaves present and not beyond the work of a professional restorer, a very rare signature

Notes: James Boswell (1740-95) best known for his biography of his friend and older contemporary the English writer Samuel Johnson, which is commonly said to be the greatest biography written in the English language.
