CH-CI, GG-GH two pairs in a light shade on 1851 (12 Dec.) entire to Edinburgh tied by "134" numerals of Bristol, the adhesives with good to large margins all round and neatly cancelled on "Parliamentary Notice" of the Vale of Neath Railway. The printed letter is to property owners who will be affected by the proposed extension to the railway. With Bristol despatch and Edinburgh arrival, there is a vertical filing crease. Pays postage 2d. and registration 6d. Originally addressed to Gelston Castle. A fine and interesting letter associated with the railways.
Addressed to Mrs Matilda Maitland; Mathilda Douglas inherited the estate in 1809. In 1813 she married William Maitland, and their family continued to preside over the estate for most of the 19th century
