Great Barrier Island Pigeon Post
1898 The Original Great Barrier Pigeongram Service
1903 (Dec.) two pigeon-mail flown "Flimsies", unstamped and sent to the proprietor Mr. Howie on business service, both cancelled by the violet 'great barrier/ the original/ pigeongram service' handstamp in violet, one from Robinson the agent at Whangaparapara and the other from the agent Warren at Port Fitzroy. Robinson urges "don't forget the feed" while Warren's message dated 21st Dec. reports "This is our last bird, please send some more birds this week as there are a lot of people coming to the Barrier...". Both sent as the pigeon service was faltering.
