Registered Letter envelope (Samuel EA1b) from Wellington to Switzerland franked with 4d. blue-green, 8d. blue and 1/- red-brown tied by three strikes of 'n.z./ wellington/ 21 fe 88' c.d.s. and a further strike alongside, '3', backstamped 'zurich'; a fine and attractive three colour franking. Note: H. J. Knowles, the sender of this cover, had chaired the inaugural meeting earlier in 1888 leading to the foundation of what became the Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand, and was its first secretary-treasurer.
