1854 Four Annas Issue
3rd Printing, Head Die III, Frame Die I
4a. blue and red, Jatia Stone 'N' unused horizontal pair [11-12] without gum, large sheet margin at foot, showing near complete frame lines, three complete rosettes, just trimmed short at top; one or two creases or bends, the left-hand stamp with small thin spot all of which barely detracts from the importance and beauty of this exhibition standard multiple. Only two unused pairs of the 3rd printing remaining intact in private hands, this being the finer of the two and a delight. B.P.A. Certificate (2014). S.G. 21, £110,000

provenance:

Ferrary, Sale XI, Lot 437, 19th November 1924
Champion

Notes: Identifiable by the frame flaws as Jatia stone 'N' (previously only recorded in conjunction with head die IIIA), but in fact now seen to form an irregular block of four with the famous unused vertical pair (4-8] from Jatia stone 'F' (ex. Koh-i-Nor' lot 208, illustrated as Jatia plate VI) and therefore illustrating that stones 'F' and 'N' are one and the same.
