Essays, Proofs and Reprints
½a. vermillion '9½ arches' essay block of six (3x2) [57-59 / 65-67], good margins all round, from the left of the sheet with part inscription "
Notes: As the 'Scinde Dawk' Wax seals proved to be so fragile and thus withdrawn from use in 1854, designs were drawn up and proofs made for a postage stamp more akin to that already in use in Britain and the Commonwealth.
The ½a., 1a. and 4a. were lithographed in Calcutta at the office of the Surveyor-General. The 9½ arches essays were prepared for use with a stock sent to Bombay, but never officially issued.
