The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Charles I (1625-1649), Civil War Issues, Royalist Oxford, Unite [of 20-Shillings], 1644, New Hall Inn, (p.m.) CAROLVS • D : G : MAG : BRI : FR : ET • HIB : REX • neat crowned and armoured bust left, holding long sword and olive branch, XX behind, rev. • EXVRGAT DEVS • DISSIPENTVR • INIMICI • RELIG : PROT : | LEG :• ANG : | LIBER : PAR in continuous three-lined scroll, R over G in EXVRGAT, three even plumes with bands above, 1644 OX in two lines below, 8.98g [138.4grns], 12h, p.m. plume (Beresford-Jones, dies X/18; AHH Virtual 234 = Hird V, 40 same dies; Brooker 853 same dies; Schneider II, 325 same dies; North 2389; Spink 2735), an earlier striking than the remarkable Hird coin, with the usual peripheral die softness and doubling, otherwise lustrous and toned, a pleasingly good very fine / almost extremely fine, very rare, especially in this state
