(x) U.S.A.: California: City and County of San Francisco, School Bond, 1872, $1000, 'for the support of common schools', signed by William Alvord, vignette of Lincoln Grammar School, very large format, black, mauve underprint, with coupons. William Alvord, 1833 - 1904, 14th Mayor of the City, was also a merchant and banker. President of the Bank of California from 1878 until his death. The piece has been stuck down and the paid coupons replaced underneath. Some damp stains and edge splits, VF. NO RESERVE
