U.S.A.: Blue Ridge Railroad Co., a pair of 7% Guaranteed Mortgage Bonds, $1000, 1869 #3555 and 3556, both signed on reverse by Henry Clews as Trustee, steam train, blue, cancelled. Henry Clews (1834-1923) was one of the largest marketers of federal bonds during the United States Civil war. He organized the "Committee of 70," which deposed the corrupt ring associated with William M. Tweed in New York City, and he served as an economic consultant to President Ulysses Grant. Towards the end of his life, he wrote one of the most famous classics about life on Wall Street entitled "Fifty Years in Wall Street".Couple of small edge nicks/tears, EF (2)
