1858 (4 Jan.) entire from Melbourne to Sydney, bearing Calvert roulette 8-9 marginal 6d. orange-yellow [35] with roulettes on three sides with double roulettes at right, tied by Barred Numeral "1" and showing, on reverse, despatch and "ship letter/sydney" datestamps. Photo

Note: The vertical lines of rouletting are not parallel, indicating the use of a single line rouletter, and it is suggested this may have been an early experiment by Calvert prior to adopting his gauge 7-9 machine (see J.R.W. Purves in "The Emblems", page 17.
