1849 (May) (c.) neat envelope to London, neatly marked in the corner "Registered No. 17" and showing a small "6" in the same ink alongside, and showing a very faint strike of crown over boxed "central/post office/perth" in black and a part strike of "ship letter/western australia" dated oval, rated "2/4" and with an oily strike of London large crown/"registered" in red, the reverse with London arrival c.d.s. (23.8). A fine and neat envelope which is the earliest recorded registered letter from Western Australia

Western Australia introduced a registration system on 20th October 1847, the fee was 1/-. Carried per 'Champion' to Singapore, 'Achilles' to Galle, 'Haddington to Suez and 'Hindoostan from Alexandra
