1866 (21 Dec.) blue wrapper to Southampton "Via Marseilles" bearing perforated 2d. blue pair, 6d. violet and 1860-65 (6d.) rose-red and Prussian blue registered stamp cancelled by "55" sunburst with boxed "registered/newcastle" plus Newcastle despatch c.d.s. in black and the standard London registered dated oval (11.2) code "C" in red, the reverse with Sydney transit (22.12) and Southampton arrival (12.2) c.d.s. This is the earliest of only two recorded examples of registered mail via Marseilles during the 1863-72 10d. period

Pays the 10d. packet rate via Marseilles plus 6d. registraton
