1856 (2 Aug.) neat envelope to Pendlebury, Manchester bearing 1854 3d. yellow-green (margins on two sides), 1854-59 6d. olive-grey (close to very large margins) with 1856-59 (6d.) vermilion and Prussian blue registered stamp (almost touching at top, other margins very large) tied by dumb barred ovals and handstruck "d6" in black, with a good strike of "registered/sydney n.s.w." dated oval in red and manuscript "3" in red ink; the reverse with boxed Liverpool Ship datestamp (21.11) Manchester c.d.s. and a superb strike of the undated Pendlebury open circle. An appealing three-colour franking used during the first year of the registered stamp. S.G. 87, 96, 102

Carried on the contract clipper 'John Baines', pays 6d. packet rate, 3d. inter-colonial ship letter rate (to Victoria) and 6d. registration
