1851 (10 Oct.) entire (page 5 of the letter) to Gosport, Hampshire bearing 1850 re-engraved 1d. Sydney View dull carmine on bluish paper (diagonal crease, split and repaired corner) with pair of Laureated 2d. greyish blue, fine impression, cancelled by light strikes of "103" numeral of Ophir, marked "Registered" and bold "No.21" in ink and "1/2" rate mark; an array of datestamps on the reverse with Ophir despatch oval, Bathurst oval, Sydney, London and neat Gosport arrival (14.2) in blue. All adhesive with faults, horizontal and vertical filing creases.


Interesting contents refer to gold mining including, "... In addition to the ... Gold I enclose a small specimen of Gold mixed with quartz, which is the matrix in which Gold is frequently found. Quartz. is a hard kind of rock & will strike fire like flint ... P.S. If you want more nuggets of gold sent you, you had better answer this letter immediately..."
