1861 (8 July) small envelope to an officer in Canton "via Marseilles" bearing 1855-57 1/- green with Stars 1d. rose-red on white paper (3) cancelled by Watford duplex, marked "Registered" and "10" in ink, with a fine strike of small crown/"registered" in red and two strikes of the standard-type London registered dated oval code "AX", the reverse with Hong Kong c.d.s. (21.8). There are a few small imperfections but a rare registered cover to one of the troops stationed in Canton

Pays 9d. postage plus 6d. registration. There was no registered service betwen Hong Kong and Canton at this time and the "10" decimes is a postage due
