1857 (19 May) neat wrapper to Genoa, Italy bearing 1855-57 1/- green tied by "159" roller cancellation of Glasgow, a superb strike of the boxed "registered/at/glasgow" in red (A&H 1488), a good strike of the first type open "registered/g.p.o." with double arcs at each side code "*" struck in black, large "PD" in circle, French "chargé" in black and Calais transit (20.5), the reverse with despatch c.d.s., Bureau Central c.d.s. in red and the arrival c.d.s. (24.5), there are two large marks where the French wax seals have been removed; folding creases but a neat and attractive cover.

Pays 6d. postage and 6d. registration.

This first type open London registration oval was introduced in 1856 and replaced the following year with the single arc type. This is early use of the special Glasgow handstamp, Alcock and Holland record its use from 1858 to the early 1860's
