1858 (7 Mar.) envelope to London bearing 1d. Stars and 1855-57 6d. (trimmed wing margin) cancelled by "409" numerals of Jersey with the neat despatch c.d.s. alongside, there is a very good strike of the distinctive Jersey crowned "registered" handstamp struck in red and there is a good strike of the second type of unframed oval "registered/g.p.o" datestamp (9.3) code "M" struck in red. The note on the side of this envelope indicates that it contained four £5 banknotes. Thought to be the only known example of this Jersey registration handstamp struck in red. The London Chief Office unframed oval was introduced in 1856 and replaced the following year by the type illustrated here (with the single arcs at each side). The standard pattern oval was introduced in 1858
