1842 (14 Apr.) 2d. wrapper, a103, to London marked with large letters "Registered Letter" and "2/-" plus manuscript "5" in the top corner, cancelled by a rather oily black Maltese Cross with Newcastle on Tyne despatch c.d.s. and London Paid tombstone arrival (15.4), there is a further despatch c.d.s. on the reverse. Light soiling with a couple of horizontal filing creases and part of the address has been bleached out. Karl-Albert Louis Certificate (2000)


Also 1842 (24 July) a similar 2d. wrapper, a97, from the same correspondence, marked "Prepaid Registered Letter July 24 1842" and "Registered" with "1/-" rate mark, numbered "24" in the top corner fine Newcastle on Type despatch and London Paid tombstone (26.7); the top flap has been removed and other flaps reduced, part of the address also bleached out. B.P.A. Certificate (2010). A rare and desirable pair of wrappers. (2)
