1823 (22 Dec.) double rate entire letter from Vere via Kingston to London, rated "4/4" and showing, on reverse across join, "jamaica" F4 fleuron datestamp (24.12) and arrival datestamp (31.1), the contents including "A negro informed his master at Port Maria in St. Mary that several slaves on frontier Estate had been conspiring to burn the estate, to kill the whites, then to set fire to Port Maria and to make this the signal for a general revolt in that quarter. The Magistrates acted with promptitude - secured the accused - tried them, then found 8 guilty, who are to be executed on the 24th. instant.".
