1799 (29 Apr.) entire letter from Kingston "H.M. Ship Renomee" to London, originally treated as a ship letter double rate and charged "2/6" in red ink, later corrected to a packet rate and charged double rate "1/-" from Portsmouth to London plus 1d. , showing rare oval-framed "pd" with curved-framed "portsmouth/ship letter" below, the reverse with "jamaica" J4 datestamp and part arrival datestamp. Unrecorded by Foster and a very rare and important pre-stamp handstamp. Proud PD2. Photo

Note: Being with the Jamaica/date Packet Office mark it appears that it was not at first recognised as paid and all incoming letters seen in the first month (Apr. 1799) with this datestamp were treated as Ship Letters with corresponding rates
