1932 (28 Jan.) "City of Basra" cover carried on the inaugural flight of the Cape Town-London service bearing 1931 1d. and 4d. tied by Bulawayo c.d.s., the plane encountered a violent storm and crashed at Salisbury, the Pilot Capt. Gittins having to perform an emergency landing fifty miles from Broken Hill, the mail transferred to "City of Delhi" six days later, accompanied by two aerial photographs of the marooned "City of Delhi"; a fascinating item of recovered crash mail.
