An important collection of autograph letters, documents and photographs relating to the siege, from the records of Leopold Stern trading as 'l. stern & co.' in Schweizer Renecke at the time of the Anglo-Boer War contained in two folders within a large envelope including an autograph permit in High Dutch from the State Secretary F W Reitz to L Stern & Co for the transport from Pretoria to Klerksdorp by Train of a bar of raw gold weighing 969,60 ounces, various receipts relating to purchases of Oxen, carts and a wagon etc., permits to travel, a lot of manuscript copies of full ledger sheets being detailed statements of goods supplied to the Imperial Government during the Siege covering the period 31 July 1900- January 1901, mostly signed for by Lt. Col. G. D. Chamier, eight cheques drawn on 'de nationale bank der z.a. republiek beperkt' various payees endorsed over to L Stern & Co. on reverse duly receipted with Cape 1d. Revenue stamps, copies of contemporary photographs of the Store and Post Office Schweizer Renecke before and after being burnt down plus a picture of Leopold Stern; an archive of great historical significance
