These were available up to 31 January 1923 when they ceased to be valid. On 17 December 1920 the League of Nations conferred a Mandate of Administration of the territory on His Britannic Majesty, to be carried out by the government in South Africa. The Mandate came into force on 1 January 1923, on which date the first South African stamps overprinted for use in the territory were issued

1915 envelope from Keetmanshoop to England franked at 6d. and with boxed registration handstamp and censor handstamp, both in blue, 1919 envelope from Luderitzbucht to Cape Town franked at 5d. and with "Luderitzbucht" registration handstamp, and 1925 P.O.W. envelope from Luderitzbucht to Switzerland franked at 6½d. with censor label and cachet, and with P.O.W. cachet at foot; the last with light large part toning on face panel, otherwise fine
