Stamps of South Africa Used in South West Africa
These were available up to 31 January 1923 when they ceased to be valid. On 17 December 1920 the League of Nations conferred a Mandate of Administration of the territory on His Britannic Majesty, to be carried out by the government in South Africa. The Mandate came into force on 1 January 1923, on which date the first South African stamps overprinted for use in the territory were issued

The Adhesives
3d. ultramarine block of four, neatly cancelled by centrally applied upright strike of the Keetmanshoop datestamp for 3 January 1923; small defect at foot of lower right-hand stamp though a rare and attractive multiple of this short-lived stamp. S.G. Z8, £400+. Photo

Note: The 3d. ultramarine was the last King's Head stamp issued in South West Africa. It was issued on 4 October 1922 and thus available for use for a very short period prior to invalidation of the unoverprinted issues on 31 January 1923
