1884-85 First Nile Expedition
1885 (22 Jan. and 8 June) envelopes ex the Orde correspondence, the first (edge faults) to England, marked "On Active service, no stamps obtainable" with large Korti Star and Crescent datestamp, "2½" handstamp and Dursley datestamp, all on face, the letter headed "Kerf-El-Hamdab"; the latter a double blue OHMS envelope (225x95mm.) marked "On Active Service No Stamps" and "C.R. Orde, Capt, Station Commandant, DULGO, Soudan", rated "5" for a single rate item and showing boxed "t" handstamp alongside Wadi Halfa datestamp (14.6). Both with interesting content mentioning "first boats of the Nile Column" gifts from Canadian boatmen.
