Postal Stationery Cards
1910-61 display collection formed by Eddie Bridges, mounted and written-up on 64 double width pages, the first page with an outline of the exhibit and a list of the postal rates followed by four pages of the ½d. provisional cards for Cape of Good Hope, Natal, Orange River Colony and Transvaal, thereafter the collection developes into the Union period and including a range of King George V Head issues (43) with PC1 reply type with pencil markings attributed to the Berne UPU and PC2 with the front layout changed showing dividing line, PC3 with pencil markings attributed to Berne UPU and further examples of both ½d. and 1d. (PC4) on granite brown stock with manuscript "specimen", PC5 used examples to Straits Settlements and USA, PC5a with "1926" date handstamp from UPU Berne archive and two unused examples with cards miscut, PC5b 1d. (apparently missed when the handbooks were written) and PC6 1d. on ½d. hastily withdrawn when complaints were received because the surcharge was in English only), PC7/7a examples unused and used and PC8/8a Dies 1 and II unused concluding the King George V Heads issues, there follows the Ship 1½d. (PC9) with one used to Germany and an envelope in which the cards were sold, Springbok ½d. and Ship 1d. PC10-13a and 14 including two envelopes in which they were sold, Springbok ½d. plus adhesive ½d. (PC17) including a discovery set of four envelopes (numbered 1-4) in which they were sold, a fine range of the illustrated ½d. and 1d. types PC21-38 (128 with some used including uprates and a few with miscut varieties), and concluding with a selection of the sterling and decimal Animal series PC39-42 (25), the latter having a short life of just three months due to the Union becoming a Republic on 13 May 1961; fine quality and a wonderful lot for the postal stationery student.
