The Mkushi Post Office
1953 (17 Nov.) envelope to H.R. Beck, Poste Restante, Broken Hill, bearing 1953 1d. green bisected vertically with the African clerk, Alfred Mesenga, endorsing it with manuscript "½d" in red ink, initialling it "am" alongside and cancelling it with clear datestamp (Proud D4); fine and very rare with only this cover, one other and a piece with these manuscript provisionals known. Note: H.R. Beck,a former district officer at Mkushi provided his typewritten Postage Dues used during July-September 1953. In 1954 the Boma at Mkushi was officially relocated some 70 miles north at the existing office renamed Old Mkushi. During late November the Mkushi Post Office ran out of ½d. stamps which were required for an inland unsealed letter rate. It was at this time that the bisected provisional was produced
