1849 entire from Cape Town to London, rated "1/4" and showing, on reverse, "forwarded by/j. searight & co. cape town/cape good hope" alongside London "ship letter" handstamp and arrival datestamp (14.9). A lack of Cape postal markings infers that the letter was handed directly to the ship's captain, who delivered it to the British postal services
