Auction: 20130 - Bonds and Share Certificates of the World e-Auction
Lot: 280
Great Britain: Hungerford & Lambeth Suspension Bridge, scrip certificate for £25 shares, undated but circa 1836, #281, small format, black. Authorised by Act of Parliament in 1836, amended in 1843 and opened in 1845. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. In 1859 however, the Charing Cross Railway Act authorised the new railway and the building of a new bridge. The old bridge was dismantled, the chains being sold for use on the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This certificate was for a deposit on the shares used to pay the high costs of obtaining the Act of Parliament. VF.
